Blarney United seal Crumlin Cup

Blarney United won the Crumlin Cup 2011 organised by Macroom F.C recently, beating Macroom A in the final 2-0. Kenny Colman and Cathal O'Neill scored the goals for Blarney in the final at Murray Field, Macroom.

The fundraising tournament is organised annually for the past three years by Macroom F.C with the help of too many to mention, and the tournament has so far raised over €13,000 for Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, with €3,200 being raised this year. For winning the tournament, Blarney were presented with a set of jerseys kindly sponsored by Joma sportswear. The jerseys were presented on the day to Blarney captain Alan Weldon by Danny Murphy, representative of Joma and also playing with Cork City. For finishing runners up, Macroom A received a €200 euro voucher for Joma. Macroom's Anthony O'Donoughue won the player of the tournament, who is in inspirational form heading in to the new AUL season.

12 teams from both the AUL and MSL took part in the tournament, namely being Macroom A and B, Ringmahon A and B, Killumney, Douglas Hall, College Corinthians, Crosshaven, Blarney, Everton, Ballinhassig, and Fairview. The tournament acts as a good pre-season workout for the teams, and is also for a great cause.

The event took place during Macroom F.C family fun day, where medals and trophies sponsored by Paul Barrett Construction were presented to the successful schoolboys and all academy teams. The Macroom U13 side were presented with league winning medals, with the U12 and U14 sides presented with runners up medals. The schoolboys section player of the year and top scorers were also presented on the day. The family day was well supported also, with over 300 people enjoying the array of games, stalls and fun activities for all ages. The academy section also had a mini tournament, to showcase the effort being put in to build the club from a grass roots level. The club would like to thank all the teams, supporters and volunteers on the day who made it such a success.
